simple sweater update

So yesterday I had about 30 min when BOTH kids were napping.

This project has been on my brain for a while & I finally decided to just knock it out.

I have been loving all the embellished clothing lately at places like J.Crew, Anthropologie & Loft

I have also had this plain old white cardigan for YEARS, but it has been hanging in my closet {unworn} for a couple of years now. I figured all it needed was a little ruffle.

Voila!

Here is what it looked like before...boring!

Want to know how it did it?

Supplies:

old white cardigan

1 2yd package of 3/4" wide twill tape, white

sewing machine & white thread

Step 1: set your sewing machine stitch length to the longest option, sew down the center of the twill tape from beginning to end. Pull the thread to ruffle the twill tape.

Step 2: Reset your stitch length to the normal setting. Decide where you want the ruffle to go on your cardigan (I started at the bottom and took it all the way up to the shoulder seam on one side). Lay your ruffle on to the sweater and sew right up the center of the ruffle, back stitching at the beginning and end.

That's it! So easy and turns an old sweater into a brand new one!!!

I Did It!!!!!

Anyone remember THIS??

Yup, that would be the quilt along that I joined...LAST JUNE!

And now, almost a year later...

I have finished Avery's quilt!

{obviously, I did not "quilt along"}

The top squares have been sewn into rows,

the rows have been sewn into a quilt top,

the quilt top, filling and backing have been quilted together,

the binding has been sewn on,

it has been washed so that it is nice and crinkly...

and tonight Avery is sleeping under her brand new quilt!!!

YIPEE!!!!

LBB Design Challenge - Entry #2

So I got inspired and decided to do another last minute entry into

the Little Blue Boo / Dharma Trading Design Challenge Contest.

So here she is!

I've been seeing these cute floral embellished details on everything lately and kept thinking to myself "I can do that!" So I finally decided to attempt it on another dress for Avery.

I love the way it turned out!

I used one of my old shirts to make the entire dress. Just one shirt to keep it simple and not take away from the embellishments. Then I used scraps of that shirt along with scraps of an orange t-shirt and white tank top from other projects...exactly why I hang onto all those tiny scraps! You never know when they might come in handy ;)

I added the floral detail all along the front neckline.
(I also added light interfacing to the front/top dress piece to reinforce the knit and keep it from sagging.) To create the flower, all I did was cut circles of fabric, twist them in the middle and then sew over them a couple of times to hold the twist and attach it to the dress.
Last, I added buttons from the original henley shirt to the sleeve of the dress.

I used the LBB Sienna Dress pattern again, and this time just altered the sleeve length.

No pictures yet of Avery in the dress since I finished after she went to bed!

Hopefully I'll get some tomorrow.

LBB Design Challenge

So here is my entry for the

Little Blue Boo / Dharma Trading Design Challenge I used the LBB Sienna Dress Pattern

with a couple of alterations and additions.

I shortened the sleeves to make a short sleeve dress, lengthened the top piece and shortened the bottom piece and added a ruffle!

The dress is made of an old pink t-shirt and white tank top, then I used a cute pink floral fabric from my fabric stash.

Here are some details of the dress:

I have been wanting to try reverse applique, so decided to go with that technique for the heart {and I don't know why I didn't try it sooner because it was SO easy!!}. I also added the pocket after the dress was finished because I felt like it needed just a little more punch. I LOVE the ruffles along the edges of the pockets. :)

I tried to get a couple pictures of Avery wearing the dress, but she didn't really feeling like cooperating for a photo shoot so these were the best I got!

More Quilt Along

So I'm about a week behind on the quilt along,

but I'm getting there slowly but surely...

I finally have all my strips sewn together and cut into blocks.

I completely understand now why quilts are so expensive!!!
Next step...
sewing these blocks together into rows,

and then sewing the rows together to make create my quilt top!
