simple sweater update

So yesterday I had about 30 min when BOTH kids were napping.
This project has been on my brain for a while & I finally decided to just knock it out.
I have been loving all the embellished clothing lately at places like J.Crew, Anthropologie & Loft
I have also had this plain old white cardigan for YEARS, but it has been hanging in my closet {unworn} for a couple of years now. I figured all it needed was a little ruffle.

Voila!

Here is what it looked like before...boring!

Want to know how it did it?

Supplies:

old white cardigan

1 2yd package of 3/4" wide twill tape, white

sewing machine & white thread

Step 1: set your sewing machine stitch length to the longest option, sew down the center of the twill tape from beginning to end. Pull the thread to ruffle the twill tape.

Step 2: Reset your stitch length to the normal setting. Decide where you want the ruffle to go on your cardigan (I started at the bottom and took it all the way up to the shoulder seam on one side). Lay your ruffle on to the sweater and sew right up the center of the ruffle, back stitching at the beginning and end.

That's it! So easy and turns an old sweater into a brand new one!!!

I Did It!!!!!

Anyone remember THIS??
Yup, that would be the quilt along that I joined...LAST JUNE!
And now, almost a year later...
I have finished Avery's quilt!
{obviously, I did not "quilt along"}
The top squares have been sewn into rows,
the rows have been sewn into a quilt top,
the quilt top, filling and backing have been quilted together,
the binding has been sewn on,
it has been washed so that it is nice and crinkly...
and tonight Avery is sleeping under her brand new quilt!!!

YIPEE!!!!

Quilt Along...Take 2

As some of you know, I joined an online quilt along back in June.
I had some fabrics left over from Avery's nursery & was super excited to make a quilt for her.
You can see my fabric selection here,
Step one here,
and Steps two & three here.
And that's where it stopped...
why you may ask?
Well, we had back to back vacations for one...
...and it could have something to do with this:

Thanks to Crystal at Little Bit Funky though,
I am back on track!
I have joined her quilt along, and now instead of looking like a quitter, I can look like an over achiever!! :)
Here {finally} is the beginning of the quilt top!

Just a few projects...

Just in case you are wondering what I have been working on,
here are a few pictures!
A birthday outfit for my cousin's daughters 1st bday
{the pants were made using Portobello Pixie's Ruffle Pants pattern...LOVE them!}
Here is the birthday girl in her special outfit!

A birthday banner too!

Bunting for my sister's birthday...

...and matching dresses {of course!} for the girls!
A reversible pinafore for Avery
{using McCall's pattern #2213}
my Mom altered the pattern so that you make each side from one cut of fabric...soooo easy!
I still want to make a pair of ruffle pants to match!

More Quilt Along

So I'm about a week behind on the quilt along,
but I'm getting there slowly but surely...
I finally have all my strips sewn together and cut into blocks.
I completely understand now why quilts are so expensive!!!
Next step...
sewing these blocks together into rows,
and then sewing the rows together to make create my quilt top!
Whew!

quilt along...

I got a little time to work on my quilt over the weekend.
All the fabric is now cut into 2 1/2" strips.
Every time I look at the fabric, I love it even more!
Next step...sewing the strips together in sets of 6.
I'm also wondering why I didn't invest in a rotary cutter sooner??
This thing ROCKS! If you do any amount of sewing, get yourself one of these. You won't be dissapointed!

Fabric yumminess...

all of this yummy fabric... will {hopefully} be turned into a quilt for Avery!
Thanks to this great idea...a quilt along!
Three of the fabrics are left over from Avery's baby bedding, the rest I had a GREAT time picking out at an amazing shop in Ft. Worth called Cabbage Rose.
I could spend way too much money in there!

kitchen helper...

So, ever since my friend Marisa told me about the "Learning Tower" she got for her daughter Emmy, I have been wanting one. But, they are CRAZY expensive! So I thought...maybe we can build our own...
So I searched the internet and found someone else that had built one.
With the info from their blog, Mike, Avery & I headed to Lowe's...
We turned this pile of supplies:
Into this:

Now Avery can get right up to the counter with us!
Woo Hoo!!!!

Plus, I L-O-V-E the color we painted it...
Martha Stewart for Valspar
Green Eucalyptus #MS317
Hope everyone else had a productive Memorial Day!
